Movie Lovers

By: Alan Barthelmess
It is no big secret that there isn’t a lot of things to do Butte, so movies tend to be the fall back plan for most people. If you enjoy a quick thrill of Hollywood entertainment then I have a couple options that you might not have considered before.

Of course there is always the plaza movie theatre down in the mall which tends to usually run six bucks for a viewing. The plaza theatre is great but tends to be a little expensive for a movie, popcorn, and refreshment. Also if the movie is 3D then it will carry an additional two dollars and fifty cent charge. Which if I may add it seems lately that everything needs to be 3D just to get that little extra cash out of you, but then you are asked to recycle the glasses after the movie to only buy more the next time. The plaza does offer a decent deal on Tuesdays called “Stimulus Tuesday” where a small pop and popcorn can be purchased for only a dollar. This actually is a pretty good deal if you enjoy snacks during a movie, I tend to always get a large Coke and large popcorn that cost me upwards of ten bucks and rarely ever finish both. Especially if you really get into the film and tend to forget that you even have snacks.
Tech does offer a movie night on Thursday nights at seven in the library auditorium. The movies they tend to put on are movies that just hit DVD, for example last Thursday night was RED. There is nothing wrong with a free movie put on by your school.
If your one who doesn’t mind a quick twenty minute drive then might I suggest the Washoe theatre in Anaconda. It is and old style theatre that is creatively designed right next to Anaconda High School and is one of the few movie theaters that still has an intermission an hour into the movie so you can get up and grab some more snacks or use the rest room without missing part of the movie. There is only one movie shown there each week at seven in the evening as well. The movie changes every Friday and the admission is only four dollars a person. The concessions there are a lot cheaper than the plaza prices as well; if you want a balcony seat it is only an additional twenty-five cents.
