Night and Day is one of the only ways to describe the play of the Diggers as they took on Eastern Oregon compared to their home opener against South Dakota School of Mines.
Although Eastern Oregon gave Tech fans a good scare by posting a score from 65 yard pass within the first several minutes, the Orediggers would ultimately prevail. Montana Tech picked up their first Frontier Conference victory of the season with a final score of 39-21.

Senior Quarterback Matt Komac, played an instrumental role in all six of Tech’s touchdowns. In the first half, Komac ran 7 yards to tie the score and then connected with Jareth Wilson to up the score 14-7. Following that Bryce Worthington caught a pass from Komac to make the halftime score 20-14 in favor of the Diggers.
The second half brought three more scores for the Orediggers including a 44 yard J.T. McIntyre reception, a 7 yard connection with Brandon Boltz, and another Komac short runner to round out the scoring for the end of the game.
For individual rushing yards, Drew Savage led the pack with 102 yards, followed by Komac with 89, and Skyler Knuchel finishing with 30. Komac also ended the day with 234 passing yards with Brian Schwarzkoph adding 16.
McIntyre led Tech in receptions with 103 total yards followed by Shayne Shaules with 54, Craig Halko with 34, Stephan Bums with 16, Trent Thomas with 13, Wilson with 10, Jason Russell with 7, Boltz with 7, and Worthington rounding it out with 6 yards.
James Roberts and Trent Panasuk posted sacks for Montana Tech.
The Orediggers next home game is the evening of the 18th when the Rocky Mountain Battlin’ Bears come to Alumni Coliseum. Tech is 1-1 overall and 1-0 in Frontier Conference play after this victory.
