Diggers Reach 3-0

Jason Silvernale
The Orediggers were looking to extend their two game winning streak and that’s exactly what they did when the Battlin’ Bears of Rocky Mountain College came to Alumni Coliseum for Tech’s second evening game of the season.
The Bears gave the Carroll Saints a run for their money the previous weekend so a good game was expected, and a good game is what everyone received. The Orediggers surged to a 38-24 victory.

In the first half, it was literally score for score with both teams seemingly well matched. Matt Komac connected with J.T. McIntyre for a 37 yard touchdown pass that put the Diggers on the board and after Rocky answered with their own score, Komac connected with Shayne Shaules for a 3 yard score. After yet another Bear score, Craig Halko caught a 36 yard toss to lift Tech to tie the score at 21 for the half.

The Orediggers didn’t let up in the second half with a continued strong offense and a defense that literally shut down Rocky Mountain. Drew Savage started off the half with a 10 yard run to put Tech up 28-21. Brandon Boltz then proceeded to make a sensational 34 yard reception from Komac to rack up the score for the night. With a little over six minutes left in the game, Sean Kelly kicked a field goal and would be the final player to put up a score in the game. The field goal lifted the Orediggers to a final score of 38-24.

The Orediggers will be on the road next weekend to visit the Carroll Fighting Saints of Helena, Montana. Carroll is the defending Frontier Conference champion and is also 3-0 in conference play. Good luck Diggers!
