Hansen Scores Five TD’s

Big changes were abundant at Alumni Coliseum on Saturday – a new tailgate location on the west end of the field, Brian Schwarzkoph as quarterback, and Chuck Morrell as head coach of the Diggers. The new era of Montana Tech Football started off with a bang seeing a 50-47 double overtime victory over Southern Oregon. However, Pat Hansen, a redshirt freshman from Ekalaka, may have stolen the show having scored five of the Digger’s touchdowns including the game winning score in the second overtime.

Hansen ran 178 yards over 31 carries and totaled 38 yards on 7 passes from Schwarzkoph. Another shining moment for a younger Oredigger was when true freshman Jake Helbling picked off a Southern Oregon pass and returned it 30 years. Senior Marcus Johnson and Freshman Shane Gorman both recovered fumbles during the contest.

Schwarzkoph completed 34 of 51 passes on the day, nearly a 67% total. There were a total of eight receivers on the day with Trent Thomas and James Roberts each nabbing six. In addition to Hansen’s touchdowns, Nick Baker and Thomas also scored for the Diggers.
