Tech Partners With YMCA

In 2009, Montana Tech students voted in favor of using student fees to remodel and expand the HPER Complex (not including the pool). During the renovation process, it was determined that the pool was leaking several thousand gallons of water per day.  The pool was drained and it was determined that many structural problems exist with the current pool. To install a new pool and fix mechanical and ventilation issues would cost Montana Tech approximately $400,000. While Montana Tech works to determine what is affordable for the campus in regards to the pool facilities, we are pleased to partner with the YMCA to provide aquatic options for our students.

During this school year, Montana Tech and the Butte Family YMCA have partnered to provide aquatic facilities to current Tech students. Students will swipe their Digger Cards at the electronic scanner at the Y’s front desk and will be able to use the facilities for free. The YMCA will tally the number of uses monthly and will charge Montana Tech a per swipe usage fee. Montana Tech’s Scuba Diving Class will also use the facilities. Montana Tech faculty and staff do not pay to use the HPER facilities; therefore, they will not be able to use the aquatic facilities at the YMCA.

The unlimited and free use of the Y’s aquatic facility for current Montana Tech students will be in place for the 2012-2013 school year.
