Last Tuesday, the 21st of September, the Associated Students of Montana Tech had their regular meeting regarding school business and clubs.
During the meeting, they introduced their new senator-at-large, Sarah Lufton. Lufton was a member of ASMT for the past two years. The senators, new and old, were then asked to volunteer on two committees of their choice; these committees on campus include Student Union Committee and Parking and Regulations Committee, among various others. At the meeting were two different clubs requesting funds. The first was Judo Club which requested $500 (in ASMT funds) for a Judo Tournament to be held on October 16th. Because of their commitment to community service and bringing new activities to Tech’s campus, the Financial Committee (which met before the meeting) recommended to ASMT that Judo Club receive their full amount requested. ASMT followed their suggestion and granted $500 to Judo Club. The second club was Physics Club, which requested funds to attend a job conference in Denver, CO. They have not yet started community service activities (no plans to as of yet) and, although they have future plans to raise money at football games with physics activities, they have not yet fundraised for this trip. The finance committee didn’t recommend they receive the full amount needed for the trip, because they think it’s possible for the Physics club to fundraise the remainder that they need. ASMT granted them $1000.
The last matter of business was a new amendment to ensure that funds are allocated fairly to student groups. ASMT funds (once the amendment is passed) will no longer allow individual students to receive funds; only registered clubs who participated in club rush, have a minimum of 5 members, and have a completed official club application will be able to apply for funds. The amendment also states that funds for events can only be received if the proposal is filled out and accepted prior to the event date; in other words, no funds will be reimbursed for events in the past. Clubs will also be required to report back to ASMT after the event for which they received funds. To allow senators to contemplate the wording of the amendment and such, the amendment was tabled and is to be brought up on Tuesday, September 28th.
