Career Services Readies for 4th Annual CareerSmart Fair

The 4th Annual CareerSmart fair is just a few weeks away and the Montana Tech Career Services office is very excited at the additional number of companies attending.   With more than 40 companies registered, this is over a 21% increase in participation over last year.  Scheduled for Wednesday, February 15th, from 8:30a.m. to 3:30p.m. in the Student Union Building, the CareerSmart Fair is actually the “kick off” for the spring recruiting and this increase in recruiter interest is taken as a good indicator of continued economic recovery.

Career Services is constantly trying to add to the diversity of the organizations coming to campus to recruit and the growth of this spring event is most encouraging.  If there are particular companies you are interested in, let Career Services know.  We can reach out to share information about Montana Tech and degrees to help bring those entities to campus in the future.

In addition to the CareerSmart Fair itself, Career Services has arranged several other opportunities for students.  On Valentine’s Day, February 14th, there will be a series of very interesting afternoon workshops presented by professionals in their fields.

• Gina MacIlwraith and her team from the Grand Teton Lodge will encourage students to “Think Outside the Box – Unconventional Career Paths.”

• Julie Zamski of The Sherwin Williams Company will help business students with a wide variety of topics including what to do to get a business-focused recruiter’s attention.

• Emily Arthun and her team from Cloud Peak Energy in Gillette, WY will present an interesting program on “The Changing Face of Coal – New Opportunities within the Industry.”

• Former St. James Healthcare HR professional, Pat Dudley, will regale listeners during his presentation “Confessions of a Human Resources Director: Real Life Stories of What NOT-to-Do.” This is an especially “safe” environment to ask those questions you didn’t feel comfortable asking an HR professional of an organization you were interested in working for.

Scheduled times and signups for these workshops are on DIGGERecruiting.

The traditional 2nd Day Interviews will follow the career fair on Thursday, February 16th, from 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. To date, we have 13 companies staying on campus to recruit.  Check DIGGERecruiting to see what you need to do in order to be considered for an interview slot.

In order for the students to take full advantage of career events like this, they need to have an updated, current DIGGERecruiting account.  This is the information used to send targeted e-mails for relevant on-campus schedules, information sessions, resume collections, and workshops that are taking place on campus.  In addition, students can create a “job agent” through their DIGGERecruiting account to alert them when pertinent jobs are posted on the Jobs Board.  Currently, there are 428 active jobs posted –  including everything from part-time local jobs to internships and full-time opportunities around the world.

Be IN DEMAND – update your DIGGERecruiting account, sign up for the workshops and attend the 4th Annual CareerSmart Fair!
