Disabilities Service Policies Updated

Alan Barthelmess
Tech is an always growing college, enrollment is growing, and majors are adding more focuses. In the last year Tech has even opened the new Natural Resources Building to accommodate our ever changing college. With all these changes Tech has been creating new policies and updating old ones.

A service policy that is becoming updated and better known is the “Disability Services”. Tech has always had Disability Services but is recently trying to improve these facilities. The Disability services policy has now been formalized and outlined with the recent updates.
If a student wishes to use any of those services they can simply go to and http://www.mtech.edu/student_life/disability/ see the list of services provided. I highly encourage every student to visit this website and become familiar with it. Any student who uses these policies should be proactive if they wish to use the certain service instead of using the service as a backup plan. Students who would like to request an accommodation, or have questions about Student Disability Services at Montana Tech should contact Joyce O'Neill at the North campus (496-4429) or by e-mail at joneill@mtech.edu or Cricket Pietsch for the South campus (496-3730) or by e-mail at cpietsch@mtech.edu.
There is a Campus Access Committee meeting on Monday of November 22nd at 2 pm in the Pintler room, located in the Student Union Building, for anyone who wishes to learn about the services and policies. The meeting will discuss the following in order of updated policies, procedures and disability services. Then updates on the OCR’s 2008 compliance review and end with addressing current concerns. If you have an opinion to voice or a request to be made concerning any of these services or policies this is the meeting you need to attend.
There are many services that will can come in very handy and make the semester so much easier to get through. Some of the most common services used are note takers that provide an extra set of notes in requested classes, extended test times, and converting all lectures or notes into audio formats. Of course there are many other services that may pertain to your situation but like mentioned above you’ll just have to check the website and see.
