Battlefield 3 Out Now

The next game in the Battlefield series has finally arrived. Titles such as Battlefield have set high standards for their customers and year after year they still find ways to surpass our expectations. Battlefield 3 has done this yet again and left their community with a smile, and a huge replay value for a military first person shooter game. Problems were experienced on the launch with servers randomly crashing, upsetting a lot of people. Since the first week of the game launch however most problems have been fixed and online play is a blast.

Last Day To Drop

We are now into the first few weeks of class and starting to get the feel of things. For anyone who didn’t get started off on the right foot it is not too late to change pace. There is an option to drop a class fifteen days after classes start without any recourse, this will not affect your GPA or be on your transcript. The last day to drop without anything on your transcript was September 12th. 

Parking On Campus

Montana Tech is always growing and competition for parking spots on campus is heating up. If you live close by walking to and from class will save money and benefit your body. If you must drive, be careful not to break parking regulations.

5 Budget Video Games

5. Trenched
Trenched is a co-op wave based game where you and your teammates fight off hordes of televised monsters in giant robots. The game is very simple and can be addicting if you are playing with a buddy, doesn’t take long to beat the game though and many players are eagerly awaiting downloaded content. It is definitely nothing compared to Chromehounds or Armored Core but there is a lot of fun to be had.

Science Fair

Congrats to all the young kids that came from all over to compete in Tech’s science fair the week before spring break. There was an enormous amount of entries and bright ideas and experiments. It really takes us back seeing students in middle school showcasing their bright ideas in a presentation form at the science fair. Remember back in the day when we all had to attend a science fair and perform an experiment through the use of the scientific method.

The Helgast are back

Yep the ISA’s friends from the past just never seem to go away in this PS3 exclusive title Killzone 3. Killzone 3 is a very popular game for Sony gaming devices, but it excels when its played on the PS3 with a 3D TV.

Time to fight back

Over spring break a new game came out on multiple platforms, a tactical first person shooter with a new set of drones and weapons used to obliterate your enemies. There are more drones and vehicles in the game instead of weapons so most of fighting will be done with vehicles and drones you unlock.
In the story or campaign if you prefer, a series of events that starts with North Korea and South Korea unifying. Then leads to Korea taking multiple military actions over a few years with an ending result of overthrowing America. The timeline the player will be playing in is known as the occupation wars. Instead of playing as a member of the fine military this time you’ll be playing simply as an oppressed citizen. There are some scenes that surround you that will definitely stir some emotions that will surely upset you.

Cheap PS3 titles

Just recently I found a great deal on a Sony PS3, so I hit amazon.com to find some cheap games. I was able to acquire four great games for less than a hundred bucks, some really neat titles that each jump around the typical gaming genres.

When the snow melts

It is that time of year when the snow melts…. Well hopefully it is Montana after all. When the snow melts however a whole new range of possibilities opens up. For a start the mountains surrounding us become much more accessible, especially for those that do not have four wheel drive vehicles. For those students that are not local to the butte area I highly recommend that you try hiking t the lady of the Rockies. You can either walk up the face of the mountain or take a bus ride from our chamber of commerce around the back of the mountain.

New to Xbox Live Arcade

For all the Xbox arcade lovers out there, I’ve got some good news for you. Much like the Summer of Arcade titles released over the duration of a month, Xbox Live is releasing another five arcade titles. It looks like there will be a new title each week starting last week. Most of these titles will cost 1200 Microsoft points which comes out to about fifteen bucks. If the games are anything like the Summer of Arcade titles, they are worth a lot more than what we’ll pay.

Career Fair

Every semester there is a time when many students must dress up professionally, touch up their resumes, practice the basic interview questions, and then head out to the career fair. Each year the career fair presents a new opportunity for students to pursue an internship and get a little experience in their future field. Last week we experienced our third career fair during the spring semester. Each year the spring semester career fair seems to improve upon itself little by little and creates more opportunities for students to obtain work experience.

The Dry Spell is OVER!

After Christmas we all take our brand new games and play the heck out of them and the next month or two it is rare to see any new releases. Well were in the middle of February now so it is time to take a look at just a handful of games that will be coming out early on this year. So far from an early peak at what is to come, I can confidently say it is going to be a great year for shooters.

Thursday Night

The fourth night of the week tends to be known as thirsty Thursday or a small night of celebration that tomorrow is end of the work week for most. For me that’s one of my favorite nights of all, for a silly reason but that’s the night the “Big Bang Theory” airs. I have a few suggestions for students how to spend their Thursday nights.

It Must Suck to be Isaac Clarke

Not too long ago I had the thought that it must suck to be Isaac Clarke. I had this thought while playing as Isaac Clarke in Dead Space 2 right after I had just run from an army of necromorphs (horrifying bug-like zombies) in a straight jacket. He survived the first necromorph outbreak only to awaken and see that another one has happened, even though in the last Dead Space he believes he has stopped the terror from ever happening again.

Tax Season

Well it’s that time of year again, where we all must file our yearly taxes; whether you owe money, or are expecting a fairly decent-sized refund check, it must be done. Most of us students will probably be receiving a refund, so why not hurry and get it done? Also a reminder for those students receiving financial aid and planning to file financial aid for next year, you need to have your taxes completed before you can file for aid. These are a few options that should help students decide how they wish to proceed with filing their taxes this year.

Got a Need For Speed?

Hope everyone had a great Christmas break, I know I sure did. One gift I received was Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, an intense racing title that has multiple race modes instead of just your standard race. One of the most popular races modes that kicked off this series is in the title “hot pursuit”. Hot pursuit is a race mode where players will play as either racers trying finish and win the race or cops that are trying to shut the race down.

What to do with books?

     As a fellow student, I hate spending lots of money on books that I tend to use for only a semester, then never look at again. Sure, some books I will read every once in awhile, that however tends to be it for the lifespan of my books usage. So we’re left with the option to hang on to our books and maybe use them again or sell them.
   If you are looking for some quick cash, you can always sell them to our very own bookstore. You’re most likely to get about one third of what you paid for the book in that situation. Amazon is always asking if you would like to sell your books for to them in exchange for credit on Amazon, which is a pretty good deal; with the credit you could buy other items on Amazon since I have noticed they tend to sell just about everything on that site.

For those of you that haven’t heard of angry birds, where have you been for the past year? “Angry Birds” is only the most popular game for mobile devices since touch screen technology become popular. With over twelve million downloads on smart phones, “Angry Birds” has become a slingshot sensation.

Skiing & Snowboarding

Over our last break Discover Ski Resort opened up and started the lifts up. I personally experienced the beginning of this upcoming season’s first days of skiing and boarding. It looks promising so far but we still need much more snowfall for the mountain to be completely open. Over the years I have learned to ski and snowboard at a respectable level, been offered a couple chances to give ski or snowboard lessons at discovery but never took the staff position.
