Every year we go through the same routines whether we are in elementary, middle school, high school or college of some kind. We do this every fall and spring: bringing back old students and bringing in new students.
For many of you who are new to Montana Tech and Butte in general you may fall more in love with this place than you think you will. Butte may not be the most beautiful place on earth, but there are many things to occupy your free time, and before you know it Butte has grown on you.
I am not saying that you need to go out and experience Butte all at once, and forget about your homework. However, what I am suggesting is during the week work on your homework during your free time, between classes or after.
As for things to do up at Tech, there is always something going on. If you want to get involved at the school, you can sign up for one of the numerous clubs. If you can think of a club we most likely have it, and if we don’t you are encouraged to start one up. We also have many home athletic games that are a lot of fun to attend. Not only can you attend the games as a student, you can also get involved in the Pep Band, Cheerleading or even join the Hooligans. On top of all the clubs and athletics, there are many activities that the Student Activities Council puts on such as Fairmont trips, cardboard sledding, movie nights and much more. To find what activities are going on, pay attention to your e-mails and check out Montana Tech’s homepage.
If you want a break from Tech and a night out on the town, there are many different bars you can go out to, of course you need to be 21 to get into most of them, but there are a few that are 18 and up that offer pool or darts. A couple of the major hangouts for Tech students in Butte are the King Pin and the Vu Villa. The King Pin also offers bowling and one night a week is dedicated to Tech Students where they get discounted rates. If you really enjoy bowling, there is another bowling alley down by Wal-Mart called Star Lanes. There are also many outdoor activities that student’s par-take in such as snowboarding, skiing, hiking, mountain biking, swimming, paintball, horseback riding and much more. Another thing that gives you a nice break from reality is a girls or guys night. Set aside one night once a month to just get together, have dinner and chat with your girlfriends or for the guys a night where you sit and play video games for hours on end. If you’re not in the mood for that, then there are always the movies.
So if you have some down time at night, or on the weekends there is always something going on around Tech and in Butte. Just don’t forget about your classes!
