ASMT Meeting 1/17

Jessica Mazzone
Just like everyone else ASMT is getting back in the swing of things. They kicked off their meeting last Tuesday, January 18.
They kicked off the meeting with the renovations for the ASMT office that will be taking place any day now. Next they moved onto the Mass Meeting that took place last week. The next board meeting will take place on March 3rd. Mass has also hired a new lobbyist. Among other things they are also increasing the fees to participate in ASMT. The new fees are being increased to $250.00 for the North Campus students and $150.00 for the South Campus students.

ASMT is in the process of trying to get an incentive for the students involved. They think the students deserve something for all the hours that they put into speaking for the students and assisting with many other things around the campus. What they are thinking of doing is making so the students can get at least one credit for being involved with ASMT.
The EGC club was at the meeting to make a proposal for a competition down in Reno, NV. There will be two teams going both of them senior being senior teams. During the first day of the competition they bid a project and present on it the next day. Though out the duration of this time they are not allowed any contact with their advisor or any outside source to help them. They have done a lot of fundraising for this event but the proposal that ASMT had was not current and there was a movement for another proposal to be presented. This second proposal will be taking place Tuesday, February 1.
Some students from BSU showed up to give an update on the trip they took to China over Christmas Break. While they were there they had some amazing opportunities to interact with other college students though out the college campuses in China. They were also able to meet some Tech Alumni that have made good lives for themselves.
ASMT is participating in 1400 Souls Day in Helena this year by donating a pair of shoes. The goal is to collect 1400 pairs of new shoes to show the number of deaths from tobacco. After the event on February 8,2011 the shoes will be donated to many different charities.
Joyce O’Neil and Paul Beaty also showed up to the meeting to promote the designated drivers program and get a picture of the group sporting the green designated driver bands. This program is sponsored by the Butte Tavern Association making it so that when students go out they have a friend that is guaranteeing they have a safe ride home. On top of all that the student being the designated driver gets free pops all night.
Last but not least the ASMT elections are coming up with in the next few weeks. If this is something that you would be interested in contact ASMT.
