To describe the two Oredigger conference victories this past weekend, big is an extreme understatement. Fans got to experience some of the best play Montana Tech has shown this season as they downed the Warriors of Lewis & Clark and the 16th ranked Griffins of Westminster. The Diggers previously beat Westminster on a half court buzzer beater. Combined with this weekend’s victory on the Kelvin Sampson Court, Tech gains a sweep of the Griffins, which has never happened in the program’s recent history.
Although both games were incredible team efforts, the performances of Dirk Anderson, Tyree Haynie, and Kellen Hasquest gave Tech a competitive edge in both contests. Anderson racked up 19 and 12 points, respectively. Tyree Haynie rallied to 17 and 21 points while dishing out 8 assists. Hasquet tossed in 14 and 22 points while pulling down 12 rebounds.
AJ Paine was a perfect 8 for 8 from the charity stripe over the weekend. Two of these free throws sealed Montana Tech’s victory over LC State when he hit both ends of a one and one with 0.3 seconds on the clock.
The Diggers close out the season with three more home games (Rocky, Western, and Carroll) and begin the Frontier Conference tournament in early March.
