Potholes

Potholes: nobody likes them, and Butte has an overabundance. This is the worst year for them that I've seen in my four years at Tech. Usually there are one or two really bad ones to worry about, and a few roads to avoid. This year though, it feels like every road is a no driving zone, especially in my little tiny car.

There are a few potholes on Excelsior that are big enough to swallow one of my tires whole. Driving to and from school every day is like going through a maze or an obstacle course. The real crappy thing about it though, is that the only prize you get at the end is not having to spend money on vehicle maintenance. The sad thing is, what surprises me most about the state of the roads is not that no one has tried to remediate the issue, but that I haven't either been involved in or witnessed an accident because of the state of the roads.

Every venturing out I see three or four cars swerving willy-nilly in an attempt to not hit the potholes, recklessly disregarding the fact that there are other obstacles on the road, like pedestrians or other vehicles. Hopefully, before too long it will warm up enough to get the work crews out and fixing the roads, otherwise some of them will get to the point that they are downright unsafe to drive on. Excel is almost to the point where you can't get on the road off Park St without hitting a pothole. It's not a good situation to have to drive in, and tires are damned expensive to have to replace.
