Review: Legend of the Guardians

Courtney Gordon

It seems like just about every Friday there’s at least one 3D movie that comes out. Until this movie came out, 3D was really starting to seem pointless. Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole is the greatest 3D movie I’ve ever seen. And not only is the 3D great, the story, based on a book series written by Kathryn Lasky, is a fantastic one. Voices in the movie include Jim Sturgess (“Across the Universe”), Emily Barclay (“Suburban Mayhem”), Ryan Kwanten (TV Series “True Blood”), and Helen Mirren (“The Queen”).

A young owl named Soren (Sturgess) has grown up hearing stories about the Guardians (good guys) and the Pure Ones (bad guys) and loves to spend his free time pretending that he’s a Guardian. One day, when he and his brother, Klud (Kwanten), are trying to learn how to fly, they’re abducted by Pure Ones. Soren is separated from Klud by a Pure One named Nyra (Mirren) who appears to be one of their leaders. Soren meets a tiny owl named Gylfie (Barclay) who escapes with Soren and assists him in his desperate search for the Guardians. Soren wants to save his brother and all the other innocent owls who have been abducted. But does Klud want to be saved? Will Soren reach the Guardians in time? Or, an even more pressing question, are the Guardians real or fictitious? Soren and Gylfie meet new friends along the way that help in their journey.

This is a great movie for all ages, and all types of people and one that you don’t want to miss on the big screen. It’ll make you laugh, cry, and keep you on the edge of your seat. No emotions are forgotten in this attention-keeping 3D adventure. I give this movie 4.5 out of 5 stars.
