Movie Review: Harry Potter

Courtney Gordon
Thank goodness Warner Bros. Pictures finally made a smart decision about what to produce when it comes to the Harry Potter films. It was a major slip up when they decided to make Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire into only one movie; originally, they had planned on making it into two movies, but for a reason unknown to me, they decided against it. My expectations were high for the second to last Harry Potter movie, and Warner Bros. came very close to meeting them. Director David Yates has been able to stick with the Harry Potter series for three movies now, and he has done an impressive job thus far. Familiar faces in the Harry Potter series include Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Alan Rickman, and many more. Newer faces include Helena Bonham Carter (“Alice in Wonderland”) and Bill Nighy (“Underworld: Rise of the Lycans”).

Movie Review: Unstoppable

Courtney Gordon
This fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants thriller beat out all of its competitors on opening day. Contenders included “Skyline,” and “Morning Glory,” but the film that was neck and neck with none other than “Megamind,” which was on its second weekend. Almost everyone can go for a good hero movie to lift up their spirits, especially if that hero is just a regular, everyday working class hero, just waiting for their moment to shine; it also doesn’t hurt to have some great actors to carry out your eventful plot. Actors in this film included Denzel Washington (“The Book of Eli”), Chris Pine (“Star Trek” 2010), Rosario Dawson (“Seven Pounds”), Ethan Suplee (“Fanboys”) and Kevin Dunn (“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”).

Movie Review: Due Date

Courtney Gordon
Hollywood really seems to be cranking out the comedies lately. With the economy in its current state, I guess they hope that some much needed laughs will entice viewers to the movie theaters to spend what little cash they have left over after bills. “Due Date” has had a lot of previews on television and at the theater. With all the hype, I was expecting it to be as good as “The Hangover,” (comedy-wise) but was slightly disappointed. “Due Date” has some familiar actors and actresses that include Robert Downey Jr. (“Iron Man”), Zach Galifianakis (“The Hangover”), Jamie Foxx (“Valentine’s Day”), and Michelle Monaghan (“Eagle Eye”).

Movie review: RED

Courtney Gordon

Over the years, Hollywood has done a great job of using the same general storyline with different characters, endings, and twists. “Red” is one of the first films in a while that has a high likelihood of surprising even the best of you “I-can-always-figure-out-how-it’s-going-to-end people”. And if you’re still able to figure out a few things here and there, you’ll at least be highly entertained. “Red” actually has scenes that will crack you up…that weren’t in the previews! Such a great idea, right? And there’s a great cast with new and old actors and actresses who you’ll find are perfect for the roles that they play. They include Morgan Freeman (“Invictus”), Bruce Willis (“Surrogates”), Mary Louise-Parker (TV Series “Weeds”), John Malkovich (“Burn After Reading”), Helen Mirren (“The Queen”), and Karl Urban (“Star Trek” 2010)

Review: Legend of the Guardians

Courtney Gordon

It seems like just about every Friday there’s at least one 3D movie that comes out. Until this movie came out, 3D was really starting to seem pointless. Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole is the greatest 3D movie I’ve ever seen. And not only is the 3D great, the story, based on a book series written by Kathryn Lasky, is a fantastic one. Voices in the movie include Jim Sturgess (“Across the Universe”), Emily Barclay (“Suburban Mayhem”), Ryan Kwanten (TV Series “True Blood”), and Helen Mirren (“The Queen”).

Gloomy on the Outside..Bustling on the Inside

Courtney Gordon
Last Thursday Montana Tech’s campus was rainy, humid, and cold. And although the temperature may not have been low compared to our winters, the humidity made it into a chill-you-to-the-bone cold. Don’t let the weather fool you though; inside the HPER you wouldn’t have known how gloomy it was outside. Why? Because last Thursday was the 11th annual career fair at Tech.
