Thank goodness Warner Bros. Pictures finally made a smart decision about what to produce when it comes to the Harry Potter films. It was a major slip up when they decided to make Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire into only one movie; originally, they had planned on making it into two movies, but for a reason unknown to me, they decided against it. My expectations were high for the second to last Harry Potter movie, and Warner Bros. came very close to meeting them. Director David Yates has been able to stick with the Harry Potter series for three movies now, and he has done an impressive job thus far. Familiar faces in the Harry Potter series include Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Alan Rickman, and many more. Newer faces include Helena Bonham Carter (“Alice in Wonderland”) and Bill Nighy (“Underworld: Rise of the Lycans”).
With the recent death of Albus Dumbledore, Harry (Radcliffe), Ron (Grint), and Hermione (Watson) must begin the treacherous task of finding and destroying all the horcruxes Voldemort made so that once he is defeated, he won’t have another chance to come back. Their journey however, is off to a bumpy start when death eaters attack in one of the first scenes. But there’s only more to come; after the shock of yet another attack and deaths of more important people, the three friends are forced to go into hiding and constantly stay on the move while trying to defeat the most feared wizard of all time. Things only seem to get more difficult as they go on. Friendships are tested, relationships questioned, morals weathered and all options exhausted in this high intensity story created by J.K. Rowling.
Even if you haven’t read the Harry Potter books, it is very much worth your time to see this film on the big screen. For movies with special effects and action, like this one, it’s just a must to be able to feel the sounds and be surrounded by the fantastic picture. I definitely wasn’t disappointed with this film. However, be ready for a few corny scenes that could’ve been acted and directed a bit better. Aside from those few awkward scenes, it’s a great movie for all ages. I give this movie 4.5 out of 5 stars.
