This past Saturday night saw key Frontier Conference action between Montana Tech and rival Montana Western. At the end of the night, the Lady Diggers (6-5) solidified their 3rd place standing by edging the Lady Dawgs (4-7) 78-71, while the Western (8-4) men held on to their 1st place stance with a convincing 69-52 win over the Diggers (4-8).
The first half spelled doom for the Orediggers when Western jumped out to a substantial lead and ended the first half with a 31-12 halftime lead. Tech made a run late in the second half by going to the charity striped 18 times and shooting 64% from the field, although it was not enough to make up the difference. Dirk Anderson and Kellen Hasquet paced the Digger offense with 11 points a piece.
The Lady Diggers made a little comeback run in the second half and ended up on top with a 32 point campaign of senior guard Taesha Higbee. Kelsey Dewitt also added her third consecutive double-double in conference action with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Megan Eisenmann also tossed in 14 points for Tech, despite coming off a concussion during the previous weekend’s game.
