Review: Medal of Honor

Alan Barthelmess
After remaining silent for about three years, the Medal of Honor name has stepped back into the spotlight, and this time with a more current game setting instead of WWII. Sadly, this may be the worst Medal of Honor game yet. This game is being referred to as a “Call of Duty Modern Warfare Wannabe.”

Take the graphics of Battlefield 2 (respectable, but nothing exceptional in this day and age) and combine it with Modern Warfare’s game play; now limit the amount of weapons you can use, abilities and perks you can obtain, and also playlist options, and you get Medal of Honor. The game’s graphics look great, but that alone is not enough for a gamer to stay connected; more work should have clearly been spent on this game before allowing it into the gaming community.
The game is supposedly based on real events, and the characters are supposed to represent real people. This game being a tribute to them is a very righteous cause and honor to the troops. I simply just wish they would have spent more time on it and made it a real worthwhile game, instead of ignoring some major flaws with the game play. While the campaign is a good play through, it is ridiculously short, leaving the player with online multiplayer modes. This is where the player will mainly be disappointed; there are only three classes that a player can use: rifleman, spec ops, and sniper of course. Each class can use about a handful of different weapons. Each weapon can be customized in three ways though: barrel, sights, and clip size. That may sound like its room for creativity and customization, but other than what kind of scope a player is shooting through, you really couldn’t care any less. So with customization out of the question, we’re left with game play and playlists.
The initial game play feels like Call of Duty with harder kill streaks to obtain, unless of course you spawn camp. There are a ton of spawn camping online, because most of the maps are very small with fixed spawn areas and tons of players. When you combine those three together, you get a terrible online experience with frustration. Medal of Honor has made some great games in the past. MOH Airborne was a particularly fun title, but this modern day addition to the collection of MOH games isn’t even worth it. I’d suggest you save your money for another couple of weeks, and I’ll see you all on Call of Duty Black Ops.
